Content
We study the basics of the Finnish language. We learn to speak, listen, read, and write in Finnish. We also become familiar with Finnish society and culture as well as the history of Finland.
The program includes 25 lessons per week. You’ll spend an additional 2–3 hours a day studying independently.
The goal is to reach levels A1.3–A2.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
For whom?
The course is for beginners; you do not need to have any Finnish skills yet. You only need to be able to read and write in the Latin alphabet. You can also apply if you are a customer of the Employment Services (TE-palvelut) or you have an integration plan.
Learning resources
We use the Suomen mestari 1 textbook as well as various teacher-provided materials. We play games and explore digital materials. We also listen to Finnish-language music.

Location
Haapavesi is a folk high school situated in Haapavesi, Northern Ostrobothnia. This small town is beautiful and peaceful, with nature close by and excellent opportunities for skiing and other outdoor activities. Address: Vanhatie 45, 86600 HAAPAVESI
Tuition and Accommodation
Meals and accommodation in single or double rooms are available on the campus of Haapavesi Folk High School.
Tuition costs 60 € per week. A study voucher subsidy may reduce the course fee. For students who study Finnish as part of their integration plan, the course is free of charge.
Tuition: €60 / week (study voucher subsidy may reduce the price)
Lunch: €25 / week (Served at the dining hall, Wiivinsali)
Accommodation: €50 / week at the dormitory
Tuition and full board (accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner): €160 / week
Residents must adhere to specific dormitory rules, follow a guide and a housing agreement.
The course will go ahead with a minimum of 8 participants.
